A Fashion Revolution of The African Menswear – BBC Pidgin Interview with Evans Akere of Vankere

The African menswear fashion over time has always been known to be as traditional from the days of yore . Nothing short of the stereotype – buba and sokoto from the west ,  the traditional wrapper and shirt from the south or the kaftan and babariga from the north .

Over time, our menswear designers found solace in adding cuts and designs around this look , transforming the basics each time but with guarded steps .

For a while, this traditional look was shunned for the Western suit ( as it was not adventurous enough ) and many gravitated towards the field of playing around with various textured fabrics to make suits of many kinds . While some dumped the traditional look altogether , a few like Evans Akere of Vanskere stuck to the lane of the traditional ways and honed his skills .

He started out by transforming the French suit – with his Classic collection to becoming a favourite piece of the elites by using more luxurious fabrics and infusing geometric cuts for a delectable appeal. Next came the functional piece of the Afropolitan Collection ( a redefinition of the kaftan)   whereby his clients switched easily from office to occasion without much of a wardrobe change, by a simple 3 in 1 collection
