Amede Nzeribe, lawyer turned designer , is the creative director of Amede – A luxury batik and tie dye fashion brand that has become one of the most coveted womenswear lines over time .

Amede who recently turmed 50 , birthed the brand at a time when the ovation of another print  fabric was loudest . Her  brand Amede form inception was like a rose in a bed of thorns as it came at the time the Ankara trend was still warm in our embrace . Not one to succumb to the bullying trend , the Amede brand stayed true to its cause and held tight to its mandate . Today the brand is 20 year old and is at the fore of the blazing Adire trend . The brand Amede has featured in major fashion publications like Conde Nast, Elle, Glamour and has featured alongside international fashion brands like Prada and Lanvin and has caught the fancy of international buyers, fashion editors and bloggers. The brand has had its designs showcased in various fashion shows like Arise Fashion Week, Africa Fashion Week etc. With collections that have continually tickled the fancy of fashion lovers, Amede is indeed “Not Just A Label” making each piece worth owning.

– You were one of the early designer who re invented the Adire culture, today we are spoilt for choice . How do you feel about the present buzzing Adire trend ?

I love the buzz! I knew it would come and I am glad that people are seeing what I saw 20 years ago.

– Despite the Adire rave , how have you  remained relevant ?

I have remained true to myself by staying authentic,doing what I love doing and enjoying every minute of it

– What are the similarities between Amede the brand and Amede the personality behind the brand ?

Amede the brand is simple and elegant so is amede the personality. Amede the personality sees color as a source of joy and laughter and The Amede brand brings this out by constant use if bright colors.
Amede the personality loves comfortable easy and classic pieces. This is expressed in the Amede brand.
Amede personality doesn’t seek to be noticed but appreciates genuine admiration. This can also be said about the Amede brand.

– I always wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 6 years old

Turning 50. What will change and what would remain with the Amede brand ?

The Amede brand will continue to explore the art of tie dye and batik( Adire ) and making beautiful ready to wear pieces for women. We are looking at starting a men’s wear line and home decor.
