Chief Abogo of D Salon Downtown Passes

The Nigerian beauty industry has been thrown into mourning as the news of Chief Abogo C. Ugwokegbe aka Chief of  Dsalon Downtowne in surulere has passed . Just a few months ago , he was in Lagos – Nigeria , to acquire  a new property  meant for the expansion of his thriving beauty business which he planned to launch much later in the year .

Chief”s plans of opening a world  beauty academy that would change the face of the Beauty industry in Nigeria  was his main reason for his periodic visits back home form the US where he lived with his family , unknown to him that this would be his last .

While some say he passed from a ruptured appendix , others say he went into a coma after the appendectomy procedure  and had to be flown back home and placed on life support system which he never recovered from .

Speaking at his  last interview with another media house , an excited Chief Abogo said: “I am back home for good with the latest innovations and technology in the hair and beauty industry. In the next couple of days, DSalon Downtown will be wearing a new look as extensive renovations are presently on-going commencing with our Victoria Island branch and spilling down to other branches. So do not be left out; visit any branch of DSalon Downtown to experience the latest trend and technology in the hair industry. Also watch out for other aspects of salon services which are not currently offered in the salon industry in Nigeria. I am back with a bang!”

For 27 years, Chief has been at the forefront of beautifying the rich and famous and of course, Nollywood stars and musicians where he is known to be a godfather .He is one of those who revolutionized and re branded the beauty/fashion industry especially in the braid sector . Operating fro his two outlets in surulere and victoria island both in Lagos, Dsalon Downtown’has retained one of the top spots in the hair care and beauty industry from its launch in 1992. With its state-of-the-art equipment and facility, Downtown it has grown in leaps and bounds with a chain of unisex hair care and beauty salons and beauty products marts in Lagos with over 250 employees.

During his lifetime , he also established beauty library  which will provide technical assistance and consultancy for young Nigerians who want to set up beauty salons. It will also provide assistance for repairs, maintenance and servicing of beauty equipment including installation.

Two years ago , down town salon was in the news as it was involved in  a  huge theft scandal whee a member of his staff  was accused of stealing N11.9 million cash as well a hair weave and hair products valued at N12 million .
