In 1998, when Folake decided to launch Tiffany Amber, the Nigerian fashion scene was at the time – still ironing out its seams. There were no high fashion weeks, no influencer culture, and no thriving textile market as we know it today. Folake was stepping into an industry that demanded resilience, creativity, and a certain level of insanity. Luckily , she had all three in abundance. Armed with her flair for design and a sharp business acumen, she rolled up her designer sleeves and got to work.

Navigating the hurdles of an emerging fashion industry—from limited infrastructure to global recognition barriers—Folake rose above the odds to showcase Nigerian artistry on prestigious platforms, including New York Fashion Week where she took Tiffany Amber to the global stage, where her designs weren’t just a hit; they were a standing ovation. She didn’t just put Nigerian fashion on the map; she took a pin and literally stuck it in.

Being a designer in Nigeria is not for the faint of heart. One minute you’re battling electricity outages caused by the epileptic collapsing grid while sewing a gown for a high-profile client; the next, you’re fervently convincing customs officers that your imported zippers are not contraband. Through it all, Folake has remained unshaken, turning every obstacle into an opportunity- Who remembers her Denim Line ?

One can recall , during the early stages of her journey , her style was not quite defined . She experimented with various fabric kinds – from her then linen,  hand painted floor length A line skirts to her customised beaded pieces ( that were said to have been made for the brand exclusively in India at the time , stemmed from the endless frustrations of the “not getting it right “factor ) to finding her own with the luxury of flowing chiffon , creamy silks and subtle organza fabric – Folake had arrived .

Tiffany Amber Nigeria (TAN) became our Diane von Furstenberg (DVF)– primarily because of their shared emphasis on empowering women through fashion, their use of bold prints, and a commitment to creating accessible luxury.
