Why We Love and Hate Platform Shoes

Consider them the ultimate reemergence shoe to stand tall in and yes , they are the heels of the moment . These new crop of platforms are overly retro with “a very strong late 1960s/early ’70s . The most noticeable change from the platforms that defined the mid-aughts is the heel itself. It’s slightly more substantial, which helps stabilize your foot and counteract awkward wobbling as sturdier heels also help distance .  The bulbous toe of platforms past has also been significantly slimmed.

WHY WE LOVE EM

THE RIGHT PAIR of platform shoes can literally elevate your look, giving you up to an extra 2 inches of height over single-sole heels—and soaring confidence to match. The stacked sole delivers height with less stress on the ball of the foot as well. It’s not quite a sneaker, but as heels go, it’s relatively comfortable. You literally carry yourself differently in platforms versus normal high heels, You don’t walk. You stride.

WHY WE (KINDA )HATE EM

And yet the beauty of the platform can also be its curse. Taken to the extreme, platforms can make you look like you’re walking on stilts. If the heel is higher than 140 millimeters (5½ inches), it’s hard to exude grace. Shoe experts advice you avoid patent leather, pink and crystals.

Wearing even a simple pair makes a rather racy statement, so a good rule of thumb is: the higher the heel, the longer the hem. Avoid short skirts, and consider deploying your platforms to complement  culotte trousers and all the midi-skirts and dresses that can often come off as dowdy with lower heels or flats. Follow these guidelines and you needn’t deprive yourself of the style’s many benefits.

The new  wider selection makes it easier to find a more sophisticated take For comfort,  the shoes help balance voluminous clothes, like a long feather-embellished  evening skirt  You have to compensate with platforms . The proportion of certain clothes just won’t look right if you don’t have that height. A little oomph. But let’s not forget that the extra height platforms provide comes at a price. Do you want to walk gracefully like a gazelle or do you want to clump around like an elephant? As some have admitted that they nearly broke their ankle while wearing a pair hence some have decided to  occasionally indulge in the chunky uplift fewer times .
