The media has been buzzing about the recent appointment and re appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Nigeria’s Ambassadors , While there were a few firsts , here are the Women making history at this very moment .

Dr. Uzoma Emenike THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Due to the recent passing of the outgoing Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America, Justice Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor, President Muhammadu Buhari has announced Dr. Uzoma Emenike as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the USA. Dr. Uzoma Emenike is the first Nigerian female ambassador to the United States.

Dr. Uzoma Emenike is a mother of 4 and married to Chief Ikechi Emenike. She is a native of Abia State, Nigeria.  Her academic standing includes a BSc in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Maiduguri, Masters in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, LL.B from the University of Reading in the UK. Master’s in International Management from the University of Reading and a Doctorate in International Relations also from the University of Reading.

However, Dr. Uzoma Emenike is currently serving as the Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland, with contemporary accreditation to Iceland.

NIMI AKINKUGBE THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR TO GREECE

Nimi Akinkugbe is an entrepreneur, personal finance and wealth management expert.

Opunimi Akinkugbe was born in Port Hartcourt and hails from Akuku-Toru, Rivers State.

She lived in Lagos until she was 7 years old when her family moved to East Africa where her late father Mr. F.I. Ajumogobia was UNESCO Chief of Mission. She grew up in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, and attended the International School of Tanganyika, and later Limuru Girls School, Limuru, Kenya before returning to Nigeria for her O’ Levels at the International School, Ibadan.

Nimi holds a Bachelor’s Degree from The London School of Economics (LSE) and an MBA from Lagos Business School (IESE). She later came to Nigeria to serves as NYSC.

MAUREEN P. TAMUNO THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR TO JAMAICA

Dame Maureen P. Tamuno is a Lead Consultant & Doctor of Philosophy in Strategic Marketing and Consumer Behaviour.

Maureen Piribonemi Tamuno hails from Agbabiri, in Okirika local Government Area, Rivers State.

She was the 2015 House of Representative Candidate for the Okrika/Ogu Bolo Federal Constituency, Rivers State (APC) and was a Chairman of Decoration Sub Committee of the 2015 Presidential Inauguration.  She was the Executive Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State and the Treasurer of ALCON Rivers State Chapter from 2011 – 2014.

She attended the Kaduna State Polytechnic, Kaduna, and obtained her National Diploma (ND) in Production Management. She obtained her first degree in Management Studies at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, state Nigeria.

She owns a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) degree in Management and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing.

MODUPE IRELE THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR TO TO HUNGARY

Modupe Enitan Irele is a Nigerian diplomat and current Nigerian Ambassador to France, becoming the first female to hold the role since the diplomatic mission appointed its first representative in 1966. She was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari on October 20, 2016, and presented her credentials to President Macron on December 18, 2017.

Modupe Irele was born in Nigeria, and gained her Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in French from the University of Ibadan. She proceeded to gain her Masters from the same institution. Modupe earned a second Masters degree in education from University College Dublin. In 1996, she earned her doctorate from Penn State University focusing on Online Learning and Teacher Training.

Irele began her career in banking, spending 15 years as a retail banker, before venturing into education consulting. She runs her own educational consulting practice in Nigeria, Key Learning Solutions and served in the Faculty of Department and Learning and Performance Systems at the Penn State University Department of Education.

DR ENIOLA AJAY THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR TO THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS

(Dr) Eniola Ajayi is a diplomat and an Optometrist/Ocular Pathologist by profession. She owns well equipped eye clinics in Lagos Nigeria.

She presented her Letters of Credence to the President of Hungary on 1st December, 2017 as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Hungary.

She was born in Ipoti Ekiti, Ekiti State on 18th January, 1965 and graduated at the University of Benin, Bachelor of Science in Optometry (1986), University of London, Master of Philosophy in Ocular Pathology (1994) and University of Benin, Doctor of Optometry (2002). She served as the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ekiti State between 2010 and 2013 and as the Commissioner for Environment between 2013 and 2015.

DEBORAH  ILIYA THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR TO CONGO

Deborah Iliya holds a Certificate in Administration and Government Procedures. She also possesses a Diploma in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology.

Her working life began as a primary school teacher. She later worked as sales staff with the Nigerian Modern Bookshop. Thereafter, she worked with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives. She retired as an Assistant Trade Officer. She ventured into private business and became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Global Needs Nigeria Limited. She is also the Chairman, Governing Council of the Center for Policy Study and Resource Development.

Deborah Iliya was National Adviser on Disciplinary Matters, Nigeria Army Officers’ Wives Association, (NAOWA). She is a former National Vice President, NAOWA, former National Provost of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA)and former Divisional President of NAOWA at the 81 Division, Nigerian Army. She is an associate member and patron, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Branch. She is a patron to several youth and women associations.
