Are Soap Brows Really A Thing?

You’ve probably seen the term “soap brows” plastered all over Beauty Instagram and in instagram posts from influencers and beauty professionals but are soap brows really a thing and what does it actually mean?

Soap brows refers to a specific eyebrow grooming method and it is exactly what it sounds like; using a bar soap instead of a brow gel. As bizarre as it sounds, we’ve come to realise that most beauty bloggers have popularized the use of soap to groom eyebrows because of it’s simplicity, strong hold on the brows and affordability.

Soap is an amazing alternative to brow gels as its contains glycerine that coats the surface of the hairs to keep them in place. Soap brows only require two things; a mascara spoolie and a bar of soap. All you have to do is pass the spoolie over the soap then brush it through your brows to give them a feathered texture.
For the purpose of grooming your brows, the most important factor that should be considered when looking for the right soap is glycerine due to the low pH will prevent irritation.
As good and easy as this sounds, don’t throw out your brow gels in favor of soap and why is this?
Soap has the tendency to seep down to the eyes as a result of excessive sweat or water and we all know this can sting really bad. You don’t want to look stupid in public when you have to start dancing around in order to get the soap out of your eyes. Also, the consistent use of soap on the eyebrows can cause skin irritation due to the high pH levels in most soaps. It can cause lot of issues like dry flaky skin, redness, itchy skin and also mess with natural hair growth cycles if used too often.
So as you can see, “soap brows” are really a thing and while using soap could be helpful to hold your brows in place, take note that your brow gel should always be your first option.
