Toke Makinwa, Emerging Beautypreneur or Not ?

Toke Makinwa is one of Nigeria’s most popular radio personalities-who is  known for hosting “Morning Drive”on Rhythm 93.7 FM , TV host, vlogger- for her YouTube vlog series  “Toke Moments” and entrepreneur , actress etc .

Toke Makinwa is an unapologetic dream chaser as well as career driven. The graduate of English Language and Literature from the University of Lagos has shown that she always has her eyes set on the “Goal”.

Over the past few years, Toke has ventured into a couple of things, some successful and others not so successful.

In March 2016, Toke Makinwa started her journey in the beauty sector when she was made the brand ambassador of Mecran Cosmetics lightening range – a brand that emphasized on safe and effective skin lightening(after receiving numerous backlashes about her altered complexion )  shortly after its debut, not much was heard from the  brand again and their social media platforms have since then been obsolete but Toke did not stop there as she launched her Glow by TM range in the year 2018.

The “Glow by TM”- a line of skin lightening products was a partnership with Californian based beauty developer, Buluwa Inc. According to Toke, she has always been obsessed with skincare products and that was why she decided to launch her own line of skin lightening products. As it can be recalled  once again, Toke Makinwa received a lot of backlash as people said the Glow by TM was in direct conflict with the #BlackGirlMagic narrative and before we knew it not much was heard about the brand again and even the brand’s Instagram page has been long abandoned.

This did not deter Toke as she bounced back years after just after many thought she had given upon the Beauty sector as she launched yet another beauty brand known as TM Beauty.” this time a range of lip stains & lashes

Toke took to her Instagram page to announce the development of second attempt at her beauty brand. Even without any posts as at that time, the brand page had already attracted over 12,000 followers and now it has garnered a total of 20,000 followers. After Toke’s announcement, people wondered if it was going to be another skin lightening range or a make-up line and now the question has been answered as the TM Beauty is a makeup line that has started out with lashes and lipstick.

Toke Makinwa has now become one of the few beauty influencers who have their own beauty range. So now is Toke Makinwa the emerging beautypreneur? Are there going to be other types of make-up products that would be added to this line? Everyone has their fingers crossed as we all hope that this time TM Beauty is coming to stay and not suffer the same fate that its predecessor Glow by TM did.
