What Surviving Covid19 Taught Me – Healthplus CEO, Bukky George

When the CEO of Healthplus and Casabella International announced that she and some members of her household just recovered from the novel Covid-19, many were shocked as to HOW someone who was at the fore front of providing medical materials for prevention could fall victim.

The pharmacist and 10 other family members were discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital, IDH, Yaba. In her testimony , she shared her experience on social media, stating that there are valid lessons for everyone. Below are lessons and insights that were derived from her experience;

* Stay Positive

“…When i was told i had Covid19, I was even more gutted out by the fact that I had made a comment before the lockdown that if I get covid-19 infection, I will die because of my underlying health condition. Now my result was positive! My first action was to fall on my knees, join hands with one of my family members to pray and cancel my earlier confession. I learnt the lesson of a lifetime – never ever will I confess negatively again, as there is power in the tongue…”

* The virus is susceptible to heat and an alkaline environment.

“My son research information on what Covid survivors did and he shared the details with me. One of his findings is that they ate and drank alkaline food and beverages and took lots of fluids. We shopped for alkaline foods such as lemon, watermelon, pawpaw, kiwi, pineapple, cucumber… We avoided acidic foods such as sugar, dairy, apples, grapefruit… We were determined to deal with this virus that was susceptible to heat and an alkaline environment”

* Heat Therapy

The process of steam inhalation, chest physiotherapy, breathing techniques and hot fluids are essential at least 3–4 times a day when the fluid/mucus starts to build up which causes difficulty in breathing.

* Rest and Exercise are equally important

“… Covid-19 is known to pack up the kidneys. It was important to rest and at the same time movement was key.”

* It helps to keep Hope Alive

“Every morning and evening we praised and worshiped God. We read the Bible and prayed. This kept us going. We kept our hopes alive. By his grace, we did not lose anyone in our section of the ward.”

* Our hospitals are still not fully equipped for Coronavirus Treatment

Though the NCDC and the Lagos State government are trying their best as they are at the forefront in treating Covid-19 patients, our hospitals are still not fully equipped for coronavirus treatment.

* There is a slow process of recovery post discharge especially for those with underlying health conditions.

“What I did not bargain for was the very slow process of recovery post discharge. The two of us who had respiratory illness remained weak for at least 4– 6 weeks.

* Live life more Purposefully

“Each of us recognize we have another chance at life. We know it is a miracle that all of us survived… We are determined to live life more purposefully.”

* Never let your guard down by thinking you cannot contact the virus

“I am the least likely person to be infected by Covid-19. Why? Because I am strict and particular about hygiene and health matters… My home was on lockdown even before the Lagos State lockdown… How did this virus get into our fortress… I will therefore encourage you all not to let your guard down.”
