Early Years , Growing & Challenges

As a young undergraduate with a hobby that people were ready to pay for, I could not have been luckier. All I had to do then was to simply serve a client and get paid. It was really nice because I was able to buy whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it. I would later go on to face the challenge of people accepting this was my major source of income and convincing them to pay for my services. In Fact, the only makeup artist I knew was Aunty Ayo in Moremi hall. It was until about 3 years later that I learnt about other makeup artists. Another challenge was finding appropriate products and textures for the Nigeria woman/African woman. I’m glad that we are in a better place now with product textures colors and under time tailored for African women. Starting out then my goal was to makeup woman fall in love with makeup all over again and debunk the old myths they had about makeup, eg “makeup makes you older”, “Foundation is too oily” etc.

I was simply inspired by others great makeup artist as I discovered them along the way in my journey.

The Best Part of the Job

The best part of my Job will be  knowing that women will trust me enough to interpret my perception of makeup on them especially on the day that is considered the most important celebration of their lives. The smiles, poses and nodes of approval is always locked up in the vault of my heart. Another tickling part of my Job will be the experience of travelling within and out the shores of my native country to serve clients. The private/commercial flights, the luxury hotel experience and dining (wink).

The Past & How I Have Evolved

Looking back to when I started, I have evolved from that young undergraduate who just earned enough money from her hobby, Opening my first studio and hiring my first artist and then going on to open 4 more studios. I went on to hire and train many more artist who have gone ahead to become some of the industry’s best and valuable hands,This journey has also given me the opportunity to become an authority in my field and being invited to speak in a gathering that will go on to inspire others. My social media audience growth has also given me a stage to ride on. Our processes have also become better managed, structured and automated.

If Not Makeup , What Else ?

I would have very likely been either a baker or a fashion designer. I have toyed with both skills at some point in my life.

My Signature Make Up Style

I do have a signature look that radiates my perspective to what makeup should look like. My style is to retain and imitate every beautiful facial feature that every woman possesses. I have mastered the technique of coverage that does not masquerade your skin.In all, my style is natural, breathable and clean.

My Role Model

My driving force in my early days was my family who never discouraged me from staying through to my artistry, but since I got married my husband has become well where I draw from daily. He is always eager to see me do more for my self. My inspiration comes from the desire to imitate and enhance a woman’s natural facial feature, however artists like Sam Fine , Danessa Myricks ,Banke Meshia- Lawal ,Samer khouzami have a huge influence on my artistry I am also driven by my hunger to impact and inspire the younger ones and women to do life on their own terms

My Staying Power In the Makeup Industry

I mentioned earlier that this started out as a hobby which later grew into a business; it has also become my way of life. I simply reinvent my craft and make every effort to stay in touch with new trends by attending master classes, international beauty trade shows, watching tutorials online, buying keep in touch with colleagues by sharing ideas

How the Pandemic Affected my Business

The current pandemic has affected my business in the most obvious way as large gatherings in the form of celebrations can no longer hold hence shrinking our income. However I have been able to reinvent and look virtually at the ways we can remain in business and I must say that a lot has evolved for me and Beautycook

My Fun Activity

Makeup sessions are actually my happy place and that’s where I spend the most time in a bundle. I binge once in a long while. I also create time to go to the cinemas too. Playing dress up has also been my recent past time.
