Exclusive: Nigerian Fashion Designer – Evans Akere Launches Vanskere Foundation

Afropolitan & Luxury  Menswear Designer – Evans Akere of Vanskere recently launched a first of its kind in the Nigerian fashion space called the Vanskere Foundation . This will be a first of its kind in these parts as this is not a path many Nigerian designers have dared overtime . This bold move has since been welcomed with much joy as it was about time designers of a  certain influence start establishing bodies and platforms for empowerment, motivation and mentorship  .

Now, this foundation i-has been set to be a support system for not just upcoming fashion designers but creatives in the lifestyle industry at large. On why he decided to launch a foundation , Mr Akere had this to say …. When I first started out as a designer , it took me 3 to 4 years to get an industrial machine . Also at the time , I had designers before me that I would have liked to be my mentors but that was a herculean task , unlike today where everyone is within reach – Thanks to social media . So this foundation is a platform positioned to assist and  support upcoming brands in our own small way .

Past participants of the Vanskere Mentorship Programme

The Vanskere Foundation which is a non profit making organisation, is aimed at giving creative in the industry the much needed tools for growth , by carrying them along industry hurdles till they can confidently stand on their own . Even though the Foundation’s support system is not just restricted to those on the fashion industry, majority of the beneficiaries will be drawn from the fashion industry. Since inception in 2018, the Vanskere Mentorship Programme has been solely funded by the Vanskere brand and this has seen the creative director  not just run free programs for interested participants but also go in collaboration with some young designers both within  Nigeria and beyond , exposing them to ethical standards surpassing their scope and what the industry had to offer.
