Dennis Osadebe , a Nigerian multidisciplinary artist recently had a collaboration with Hermés is the first of its kind for the artist.

Since its founding in 1837, Hermès has been a leading name in luxury fashion. It focuses on habiliments, jewellery, timepieces, ready-to-wear,  accessories, homewares, and leather products. The product of the collaboration; The Surfing Fan Scarf, as named, is a silk scarf with a visual image of a horse and a fan, depicting ‘equestrian portraiture and personal heritage’. On January 5, 2023, he took to his social media page to announce the collaboration.

Osadebe’s art is influenced by his pop aesthetic and leans toward both classical and contemporary paintings. Osadebe brings paintings to life by drawing on his Nigerian origin and exposure to the culture, seemingly making no distinction between the paintings’ digital and physical forms.

Describing the story, Hermes and Dennis Oasadebe says, “horses can’t surf…and most certainly not that elegantly.”

It is in the spirit and continuance of spotlights being on Africans that Chimamanda Adichie and Dennis Osadebe through the arts, once again represent and make Africa proud.
