Zizi Cardow Set to Join Rebecca Minkoff & Others at Newyork Fashion Week in September
Ace Nigerian Fashion designer, Zizi Cardow has been listed as one of the speakers at the New York Fashion week this September. Zizi cardow is the CEO & Fashion Designer of Couture Apparels at Zizi Cardow Clothing.
Zizi Cardow championed a revolution for wearing indigenous African fabrics, with a view towards globalization. Zizi is an icon in modern African fashion. She founded her self-named haute couture label in 2000.
After her debut in the Nigerian fashion scene, Zizi received the prestigious Designer of the Year award at the Nigerian Fashion Show. This marked the launch of her designs across the continent, and internationally. From 2001 her designs could be seen on the runways of South Africa, Italy, France and the UK. In 2002 she staged a first- of-a-kind fashion show dubbed ‘Jungle Renaissance’ which received local and international rave reviews and critical acclaim.
She continues to challenge the fashion industry with her bold and daring designs, keeping close to her African themes and roots. Her collections and shows are infused with thought-provoking messages on subjects like the environment, social injustice, governance, culture and history etc.
In addition, with nearly 20 years of designing under her belt, Cardow serves in various capacities, lending her voice to social issues like domestic violence, child abuse, entrepreneurship and education. An ordained minister, she is also a public/ motivational speaker across multiple platforms.
Lastly, her awards and recognitions continue to amass to date. Among them are the Peace Ambassador (United Nations), Fashion & Life Achievement Award, African Leadership Excellence Award, Contribution to Fashion Sector Award, St. Moritz Style Selection Award, Fashion Ambassador Award etc.
