Penultimate week , Kamala Harris was sworn in as the 49th vice president of the United States and it was a seamless transition. Kamala Harris was sworn as the first-ever female (African American and Asian American) Vice President of the United States
Every moment of the Inauguration had everyone talking and the happiness across the world could be felt, even through our television screens. Shortly before the ceremony , Nigeria also marked a first in history as Dr Uzoma Emenike was appointed as the first female ambassador to the United States .
Still basking in the euphoria of the ceremony, here are some traits that these two women of “firsts ” have in common
1. Kamala Harris is the first female Vice president of the United States of America Dr. (Mrs.) Uzoma Emenike is the first female Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America
2. Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Dr. (Mrs.) Uzoma Emenike has a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos,
3. Kamala Harris has a history in public service as she began her career in the Alameda County District. Dr. Uzoma Emenike also served in a public service off as she served in Protocol Department and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Attorney’s Office.
4. Kamala Harris is a writer and an author of 3 books; “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey”, “Superheroes Are Everywhere” and “Smart on Crime”. Dr. Uzoma is also a writer and author of a book “Africa: The Centre-Piece of Nigeria’s Foreign Policy”, and also two prominent articles “The AFRICA We Envisage in 50 Years Time” and “Europe Needs Africa”
5. Kamala Harris has a PhD in economics from UC Berkeley. Dr. Emenike has a Doctorate degree in International Relations, also from the University of Reading in the U.K.
