– Remi Tinubu Supports National Unity with N25m Designer Gift

First Lady of Nugeria – Remi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, has launched a national fabric aimed at fostering unity across Nigeria. The initiative, organized under the “Renewed Hope Initiative“, chaired by the First Lady, featured a fabric design competition held in Abuja, calling on young Nigerians to create a design that symbolizes national unity.

The competition, known as the #OneNigeria/UnityFabric initiative, launched in February 2023, was open to Nigerians aged 15 to 25. It aimed to encourage the nation’s youth to capture the essence of unity through fabric design. The contest concluded on July 30, with over 111 entries reviewed by a panel of esteemed judges, including fashion designers- Zainab Abba Folawiyo** and Banke Kuku. After careful consideration, Mofinyinfoluwa Bamidele, a 25-year-old graduate from the University of Ibadan, emerged as the winner and received a prize of N25 million.

In her keynote address, Remi Tinubu shared that the inspiration for the national fabric came from her visit to Zimbabwe in 2023, where she attended the #WeAreEqual campaign launch by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). She found the idea of a national fabric compelling and sought to replicate it in Nigeria to celebrate the nation’s cultural diversity and promote unity.

The winning fabric design will be officially worn on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day, and will be mass-produced by local manufacturers to boost the textile industry, create jobs, and strengthen the economy. Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the initiative’s potential to bridge tribal divides and unite Nigerians under one identity.

The launch was attended by notable dignitaries, including wives of governors, former First Ladies, and wives of national security chiefs.
