Dove Soap Recall in Nigeria Due to Health Concerns

The Nigerian agency overseeing food and drugs, NAFDAC, has issued a recall for a specific Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g) with batch number 81832M 08. This German-made soap contains Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), a chemical linked to potential harm to the reproductive system, unborn babies, and skin irritation.

This impurity violates Nigeria’s cosmetic regulations, leading to the recall. Similar Dove products containing BMHCA have also been banned or recalled in other countries.

Important Information for Nigerians:

  • Importing soap is already prohibited in Nigeria.
  • Importing cosmetics using foreign exchange is also not allowed.
  • The recalled Dove soap is not registered with NAFDAC.

What to Do:

  • Retailers, distributors, and consumers should avoid the soap entirely.
  • If you already have it, stop using it and return it to the nearest NAFDAC office.
  • Healthcare professionals and consumers can report any adverse reactions to NAFDAC through various channels, including email, online platforms, and a mobile app.

Stay Safe:

NAFDAC urges caution within the supply chain to prevent the spread of this potentially harmful product. By working together, we can ensure the safety of cosmetics used in Nigeria.
