1. Ty Bello
Toyin Sokefun Bello popularly known as Ty Bello is a singer, song writer and award winning photographer who has built a reputation for herself as one of Nigeria’s foremost photographers and sought-after portrait photographer in the country and beyond. She veered into photography at a time when it was not considered a popular profession and at the time, she set up a platform for upcoming photographers. Though she dabnles into documentary and conceptual photography,she is well known for her portrait photography. With a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Lagos, she is a member of the Nigerian photography collective, Depth Of Field and she was the official photographer for ex president Goodluck Jonathan. She has worked with A list celebrities and has made a massive contribution in the world of photography.
2. Yetunde Ayeni Babaeko
Yetunde Babaeko is another woman who has made major contributions in the photography industry. Born to a Nigerian father and German mother, Yetunde Babaeko studied Advertising photography and worked as a freelance photographer until 2008. With the intention of staying in Nigeria for only 6 months after coming back from Germany, she decided to stay back after noticing there were a lot of advertising agencies but not many photographers. She started out her studio, Camara Studios in 2008 which focuses on family portraits, advertising photography,basically photography for everyone. Photographer and wife of popular Nigerian musician, Busola Dakolo is a portrait and lifestyle photographer. She works on personal branding photography, headshots, portraits, family shoots etc. Busola Dakolo launched her photography course in January 2018 under Skills Kitchen, an online school for discovering, learning and developing a skill and has since then helped interested people in photography learn the art.
5. Eleanor Goodey
Paris trained Nigerian based portrait and commercial photographer, Eleanor Goodey is known to always create magic with pictures. 8. Yagazie Emezi
Yagazie Emezi is an artist and self taught independent photojournalist based in Lagos and born to a Nigerian father and Malaysian mother. Her works focus on stories surrounding African women and their health, sexuality, education and human rights.
Yagazie who started out in 2015 has made great impact and worked with Al-jazeera, New York Times, Vogue, National Geographic e.tc. In 2019, she became the first black African woman to photograph for National Geographic Magazine and is a National Geographic Explorer Grantee. The award winning photographer who graduated as a Doctor of Optometry in Imo State University became a professional in wedding documentary and portrait photography in 2013 and since then she has made a name for herself as a reputable photographer. Her artistry and creativity has definitely placed her at the top of her game.
