Ogwa Iweze is by no small means a stranger in the Nigerian fashion circle. The Abuja based talent is the creative director behind DZYN– a womenswear fashion label . A  brand ambassador , a Nigerian lifestyle brand Influencer and fashion coach, Ogwa is one unconventional fashion designer who doesn’t see competing brands; rather she looks right through it and sees opportunities of collaborations and brand building  , hence a visit to her social media timeline sees her advertising other made in Nigeria brands Un apologetically .

 

A socialpreneur of some sorts , Ogwa  has been seamlessly running her brand for the past 18 years , while lending her voice in building other  budding brands . She is not your average Joe as she exudes an exotic blend of sophistication with an overdose of positive vibes . She is that person you would like to have in your corner . T & E Having a masters degree in accounting, why did you venture into fashion designing?

Ogwa –  Fashion for me was always a thing. I guess I was always meant to do it. I decided to start the business because the opportunities to work in accounting were not as easy to access as I am

T & EWhat is the most daunting aspect of your job?

Ogwa -The most daunting aspect is satisfying clients. We will do all we can to ensure clients are satisfied and a complaint always gives me anxiety. I know it can’t be avoided completely and so I aim to ensure we handle it as swiftly and effectively as possibly

 T & E – Looking back to where you started and where you are now, in what aspects have you evolved?

Ogwa – In so many ways. Defining our brand aesthetic. Building a lot of structure and processes into the business and really expanding our reach as a brand . I have become more conscious about what it really means to market a brand and a lot more aware about the difference between just owning a brand and owning  a fashion business .

T & EWhat is your greatest inspiration/driving force?

Ogwa – The feeling  that comes from seeing people light up when they wear our pieces . Priceless !

 T & EAsides being a fashion designer, you are also a travel enthusiast. Of all the places you have travelled to, which proved to be your best experience and why?

Ogwa – So far I’d have to say Dubai! It’s a city that holds new experiences everytime I go back It’s constantly evolving and it reminds me that I have to work hard always .

T & EWhat is the best part of your job?
Ogwa
-Always having clothes to Wear. I love dressing up!!!

T & E Is there any way the Nigerian economy affects you as a designer?

Ogwa – So many ways. I wish we had more locally produced  fabrics . I wish we didn’t have to rely on generators. On the flip side the government has made some effort to support the creative industry through loans  and that is helping . Regardless, we move!

 

T & E – You love wearing Nigerian brands and you also urge people to wear Nigerian brands with pride. Do you see yourself as an advocate for Nigerian brands?

Ogwa -Absolutely! Thank you for asking! I just love the fact that we are wearing our own more! It’s amazing how deep it goes when we support Nigerian brands and I’m working on something special to highlight this even more

T & EWho is your targeted clientele?
Ogwa
– Women 16 to 55 who don’t have an issue being the center of attention

T & EBesides designing and travelling, what else do you enjoy doing?

Ogwa – I really like socializing and networking. I also like make up
